First Aid Course Description

Objective of First Aid Course:

To provide participants with the knowledge to administer First Aid care and treatment in the workplace or in personal situations. Provide First Aid covers adults, children and babies in a wide range of emergency situations.

Course Content | What we Cover:

  • Determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council
  • Provide First Aid response, life support, management of casualty(s) and other First Aiders until the arrival of medics or other assistance.

Working knowledge of:

  • Legal considerations
  • Standard precautions
  • First aid code of practice
  • DRSABCD
  • Two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR on adult and baby
  • Procedures for dealing with major and minor injury and illness
  • Priorities of management in First Aid when dealing with life threatening conditions
  • Basic occupational health and safety requirements in the provision of First Aid
  • Infection control principles and procedures
  • Chain of survival
  • How to use and manage a Defibrillator (AED)

First Aid management for:

  • Abdominal injuries
  • Allergic and Anaphylactic reactions
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Bleeding- minor wounds to life threatening bleeding
  • Burns
  • Heart conditions
  • Casualty vital signs
  • Choking and airway management
  • Head, eye and ear injuries
  • Neck and spinal injuries
  • Needle stick injuries
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Bites and stings
  • Environmental impact such as hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration, heat stroke
  • Fractures and dislocations
    Medical conditions, including, epilepsy, diabetes and asthma
  • Drowning
  • Poisoning and toxic substances (including chemical contamination)
  • Shock
  • Stroke
  • Stress management techniques and available support

EXPRESS FIRST AID COURSE

This course is a blended learning option which combines pre-course online learning and assessment with a short face-to-face session of 3.5 hrs. The online learning is self paced and consists of reading materials, watching videos and completing assessment questions. Generally, participants complete the online learning and assessment in around 2.5 hours. As this is a web based program you will need a desktop or mobile device with internet connection, and headphones or speakers.

Students must complete the online learning and assessment and gain a 100% passing rate at least 24 hours before the start time of the face to face session.

This course includes the units HLTAID011 Provide First Aid  and HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (formally known as HLTAID003 Provide first aid and HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation). This is the current workplace First Aid qualification. Our courses are FUN, energetic and delivered in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

Course Duration:

Express First Aid: Face to Face training of 3.5 Hours and 2.5 Hours of online assessment.

Express Course as a Refresher:

Express First Aid: It is recommended that this Express First Aid Course is only for students that are refreshing their certificate.

FIRST AID COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants must be 14 years or older. Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form completed by their legal guardian which can be accessed by clicking here. There are no qualification pre-requisites for this course however it is recommended that participants have sufficient literacy, language and numeracy skills to successfully complete the course. Examples of these are: basic writing skills, ability to understand English and verbal communication, ability to count to 30, calculate basic ratios, use a timer and tell the time.

Express First Aid Course participants MUST complete the face-to-face training within 8 weeks of completing the pre-course online assessment.

Physical Requirement:

There is a physical component to this First Aid course. Participants will be required to participate in role play activities, practical assessments and be able to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin placed on the floor.

Standard First Aid: Face to Face training of 7.5 Hrs and 3 hours of pre-course reading if not refreshing.

Course Fee:

$110.00 per person

Course fees include all training materials and A4 electronic Statement of Attainment.

Student/Concession Fee:

$100.00 per person

You must be able to present a valid student card/concession card or seniors card on the day. Inability to present a valid ID on the day will result in the balance of the standard fee being payable.

FAAE provides a range of student resources available to all participants which are accessible by clicking here.  Additional learning resources specific to a students chosen course can be found in the Learner Portal which becomes available to students upon enrolment.  FAAE highly recommends if a participant has no previous first aid training experience that they read the First Aid Learner Guide available in the Learner Portal prior to attending the face to face training.

Training Assessment:

First Aid Accident & Emergency offers a hands on approach to training with progressive assessments throughout the course. Assessments undertaken include: written/oral assessments, practical and role play demonstrations, and completion of an incident report form.  If a student is deemed not yet competent, additional training and support is available at no further cost.

Award and Certification

On successful completion of the required assessments, the participant will receive a A4 electronic Statement of Attainment emailed to their nominated email address for the nationally recognised units:

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid*
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation*

The Electronic A4 Statement of Attainment (PDF) will be emailed following the training.

Certification Renewal

Provide First Aid is required to be renewed every 3 years and Provide CPR is recommended to be renewed every 12 months as per the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.

First Aid knowledge is extremely valuable for both you the individual and your community as it enables you to assist persons who become injured in the event of an accident or emergency situation until help arrives. First Aid skills can be applied in the home, the workplace or in public locations, thus the more First Aid certified people there are in a community the safer it becomes.

Our Provide First Aid HLTAID011 training course (which includes the unit HLTAID009 Provide CPR) costs $110.00 per person and $100.00 for a student, concession or seniors card holder. There is no GST or additional costs.

Provide First Aid requires renewal every 3 years from date of issue.

  • CPR is valid for twelve (12) months from date of issue. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends CPR to be renewed every 12 months
  • Provide Emergency First Aid response in an education and care setting is valid for three (3) years from the date of issue
  • As of the 1st of January 2014, Low Voltage rescue including CPR is valid for twelve (12) months as stated in the Electrical Safety Act 2002
  • Advance resuscitation is valid for twelve (12) months from date of issue. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends Advance resuscitation to be renewed every 12 months
