First aid accident and emergency are 100% family-owned, first aid and defibrillator specialist, right here on the Gold Coast. Scott and Mel Whimpey are the directors of FAAE and are locals, Scott attended Miami State High School. “As a local person that grew up on the coast, I wanted to be able to help people and having a first aid business is the way I can give back to the community,” Scott said “In the time FAAE has been operating, they have had a lot of ups and downs, running a business and bringing up a family is hard work”- said Mel Whimpey, we started out of our garage way back in 2007, we employed 1 staff member and just kept working hard.

Some of the big milestones have come on in a surprising way- firstly having a man have a cardiac arrest in one of our CPR courses was a big shock, in fact, FAAE is the only first aid training organisation to resuscitate a student in a course with CVPR and a defibrillator to date. Scott was asked to train Mayor Tom Tate back in 2016, after the training session, the Mayor’s wife collapsed in a Singapore Airport and was revived by the Mayor with the training he received from Scott. Scott now trains the Mayor personally each year in CPR and the use of a defibrillator, and really enjoys teaching and acting out his scenarios for the Mayor.

Then in 2018, FAAE won the contract to provide over 150 defibrillators for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, providing excellent service and training volunteers for the games. In all, we now employ 14 staff right here on the GC and offer fun courses at Coomera and Varsity lakes, FAAE is also considered one of the best defibrillator providers in Australia. We run free or low-cost courses for the Gold Coast Active and Health alliance including Defibrillator awareness programs, Mums and Bubs course and all the first aid training for local businesses.
