Let’s talk facts…

There is a common misconception that Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) only happens to older or unhealthy people.  The sad truth is that SCA doesn’t discriminate and it can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Over 30,000 Australian’s suffer an out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest every year and 9 out of 10 people won’t survive.  The first 3 minutes in a rescue situation are crucial – every minute a patient is in cardiac arrest not receiving CPR or an AED shock, their chances of survival drop by 10%.  Sadly, damage caused to the heart after 10 minutes without intervention is nearly irreversible and could ultimately result in death.

FAAE are here to support the SCLAA community to help save lives and make defibrillators more accessible.  We’ve worked with thousands of workplaces, clubs and individuals across the nation to help them make their environments heart safe.

Listen to one of our customers talk about her experience with Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the workplace and First Aid Accident & Emergency’s support.

Frequently asked questions

We have tried to answer all of your commonly asked questions about Defibrillators in the FAQ below however, you can find more information in our FAQ section.  Please give us a call on 07 5520 5068 or email sales@firstaidae.com.au if you can’t find the information you’re looking for and we’d love to help.

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It is a sophisticated, portable, easy to use medical device that can analyse the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electronic shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective heart rhythm.

The Supply Chain & Logistics Association have partnered with First Aid Accident & Emergency to assist with providing SCLAA members early access to a defibrillator.  Our goal is to have a defibrillator within 3 minutes of person in a member workplace environment.  The first 3 minutes are critical in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.

There is no specific or formal maintenance required on the LifePak CR2 Essential however, it is recommended that the AED is visually checked regularly to ensure that the AED’s readiness light is flashing.

The Battery and Electrodes generally require replacing after 3-4 years depending on the expiry date and the model of your defibrillator*.  We recommend also replacing these after a rescue to ensure your defibrillator is always kept in good working order.

The HeartSine Defibrillator Adult Battery PadPak costs around $200.00 and the Paediatric PadPak costs around $260.00.  These are suitable for use in the 350P, 360P and 500P HeartSine models.  The LifePak CR2 Defibrillator battery costs around $292.50 and electrodes cost around $115.00.  Replacement PadPaks, batteries and electrodes can be purchased via our Defibrillator Shop here

*The battery and electrodes should be replaced according to the manufacturers recommendations

The warranty period for the HeartSine 350P, 360P and 500P, and LifePak CR2 Defibrillators are 8 years from the date of purchase.

First Aid Accident & Emergency can provide mobile defibrillator bundles in the event you need to have a portable defibrillator for your organisation.  Our mobile defibrillator bundles include a IP67 rated Waterproof Tough Carry which houses everything you need on the go including the defibrillator, patient prep pack and monthly defibrillator check list.  Please contact the First Aid Accident & Emergency team on 07 5520 5068 if you need advice.

While we recommend everyone is trained in CPR, public access defibrillators are designed for anyone to use.  Once you switch the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on, it will tell you exactly what to do via verbal and visual prompts.

This will usually begin with the defibrillator prompting you to call for help and expose the patient’s chest.  It will then instruct you to apply the adhesive pads to the chest of the patient. You’ll then be prompted to ‘not touch the patient’ as the AED is analysing the heart rhythm of the patient and may deliver a shock.

Once this has happened the AED will instruct you to perform CPR. Our defibrillators will guide you through this stage of the resuscitation to help ensure you are performing the CPR correctly and at the right pace.

If you have purchased a defibrillator from First Aid Accident & Emergency, we will also provide you with an online instructional use video.  We recommend you watch this along with anyone else who may need to use the device.

Yes, we supply defibrillators to workplaces, clubs and homes all over Australia.

We would be happy to discuss your requirements further so please get in touch with our team today on 07 5520 5068 or email sales@firstaidae.com.au to discuss your specific needs.
