Michael Shelley, Australian Commonwealth gold medallist and current reigning Commonwealth Marathon champion, is a true local from the Gold Coast. He caught up with another true local, Scott Whimpey, Director of First Aid Accident & Emergency (FAAE), who are the Official Defibrillator Supplier to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and the pair spoke about the safety of athletes and the latest defibrillator being provided for official Games venues.
The two have known each other for over twenty years as Scott is also a keen runner and attended Miami State High School on the Gold Coast. During the Games, all athletes will have access to the best medical teams in the country, which includes the provision of 150 state of the art defibrillators across official Games venues.
As a local Gold Coast first aid and defibrillator specialist, First Aid Accident & Emergency were thrilled at the opportunity to help safeguard the Games.

Locals may see Michael running on the Coast as he is in the final stages of his marathon preparation and by all accounts is ready for the challenge. “I’ve really tried to maintain a consistent level of training in the build-up – the next couple of weeks I will focus on sharpening up for race day,” said Michael.
