First Aid tips to keep healthy as flu season hits Qld early

There’s not many of us thinking about flu season this time of year with the temps on the Gold Coast still sweltering. However, the Queensland Health Authorities have advised that there have already been 1,034 confirmed cases of the flu.  This is cause for concern with the flu season starting earlier, lasting longer and having more aggresive symptoms.

To give you an idea on how alarming this figure is, this time last year there were 842 confirmed flu cases which is up again from the 2011-2015 average of 636 cases.

Aside from arranging the influenza vaccine, there are precautions you can take to keep healthy this flu season:

Vitamin D: This is one of the best and most natural resources you can give your body and immune system and it’s as easy as getting 20 minutes a day.

Hydration: Keep yourself hydrated throughout these warmer months to keep your body at it’s maximum functioning capacity. Stay away from sugary drinks and stick to the H2O, your body will thank you for it.

Rest: Your body and mind does all of it’s repairing at night time when you’re sleeping so make sure you get lots of it!

Healthy diet: Ensure you are consuming a good balance of protein and nutrients to keep your insides healthy.

First Aid: Being up-to-date with your first aid skills will assist in the general well-being of your family and recognising signs such as dehydration or even an allergic reaction to medication.
