Course Description:
The Apply First Aid course (formally known as Senior First Aid) is a minimum qualification required by workplace health and safety legislation for the workplace first aider.
The course is comprehensive and teaches the student a wide range of first aid techniques used for injuries or illnesses that may be encountered at home, work or during recreation. You will be trained in first aid procedures that should enable you to assist an injured or ill person until medical aid arrives.
The flexible learning Apply First Aid course is designed to allow participants to complete a work book in their own time, and attend a one day face to face class to complete the practical training and assessment as well as a 40 question exam.
Course Content:
- Legal issues of First Aid
- Chain of survival
- Basic Life support chart
- Cardio pulmonary resuscitation
- Use of a defibrillator
- Monitor the condition of the victim
- Bleeding - trauma and shock
- Fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries
- Head and spinal injuries
- Poisoning
- Anaphylaxis and administration of Epi-pen
- Burns and Scalds
- Environmental conditions
- Bites and Stings
Entry Requirements: Participants must be 14 years or older
Course Duration: 6-8 hours face to face Work book – 2 hrs
Assessment: Progressive assessment of the competencies will be conducted throughout the course. You will participate in both theory and practical sessions, which will be followed by a skills assessment and multiple choice theory tests.
Award: On successful completion of the course and workbook, the participant will receive a statement of attainment which will be valid for 3 years as per the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.
Recertification: Apply First Aid is renewed every 3 years and the CPR component is renewed every 12 months as per Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.

Perform CPR (HLTCPR201A)
All course information is the same as the Apply First Aid Course however the workbook is not required if the certificate is kept current by renewing every 3 years.
