Anaphylaxis Workshop

This Training is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to help and maintain a patient with Anaphylaxis; you will also learn Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) following a life threatening attack.
Practical skills will be assessed during the course.

Course Content:

CPR

  • Legal Issues within first Aid
  • Chain of survival
  • Identify and minimise physical hazards to yourself and others health and safety
  • Provide first aid management in accordance with established first aid procedures
  • Assess unresponsive victims for signs of life
  • Seek first aid assistance from others in a timely manner if required
  • Perform adequate airway management techniques
  • Practise placing the victim correctly in the recovery position
  • Apply the techniques of rescue breathing, including the use of a resuscitation mask
  • First aid hygiene
  • Manage any problems arising during the application of CPR
  • Adapt CPR techniques to accommodate infants

Anaphylaxis:

  • What is Anaphylaxis
  • Signs and symptoms
  • Action plan for caregivers
  • Administration of Epi-pen, practical use
  • Care and treatment of Epi-pen
  • Disposal of Epi-pen
  • Management of the patient

Course Duration:  2 ½ - 3 hours
Entry Requirements: Participants must be 14 years or older

Target Group: Child Care workers, Schools, Parents and family members with children who are at risk of an Anaphylactic reaction.

Assessment: Progressive assessment of the competencies will be conducted throughout the course

Award: On successful completion of the course the trainee will receive a statement of attainment for Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and a statement of attendance for the Anaphylaxis training.

Recertification: Competency Acquisition every 12 months as per the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.
